LEARNING ACTIVITY – EXPOSURE BASICS

This weeks LA are split into two main parts:

Q1. Observation and analysis

Name all of the functions/buttons on the camera.

FRONT BUTTONS

  1. Remote control sensor
  2. Main dial
  3. Shutter release button
  4. ISO button

Explain how to set the correct ISO

  1. Nudge the Main dial to M-mode or another appropriate program.
  2. Activate the camera by lightly pressing the shutter release button
  3. Press the ISO button on the top of the camera.
  4. Use the Main dial to select an ISO between 100 and 12800.
  5. Lightly press the shutter release button or press the ISO button again to lock in your change.

Explain how to change the aperture.

  1. Nudge the Main dial to M-mode or another appropriate program.
  2. Activate the camera by lightly pressing the shutter release button.
  3. Press and hold the Aperture/Exposure compensation button while nudging the Main dial button left or right to adjust the f-stop.

Explain how to change the shutter speed.

  1. Nudge the Main dial to M-mode or another appropriate program.
  2. Activate the camera by lightly pressing the shutter release button.
  3. Nudge the Main dial button left or right to adjust the shutter speed

Q2. Practical assignment

Take five pictures every day for the next five days. The subjects of your pictures can include a series of different objects, people and landscapes. Apply the manual settings to the camera. Submit your six best pictures at the end of the week, listing the following with each picture:

  • Iso
  • Aperture
  • Shutter speed
